COURSE OVERVIEW:
The ASP Expandable Baton Certification Course is a dynamic, hands-on 7-hour training experience specifically designed for protection professionals, including executive protection agents, private security officers, and law enforcement personnel. Whether you’re a seasoned operator or just entering the field, this course delivers practical, court-defensible, and easily retainable baton techniques for real-world application.

TRAINING OBJECTIVES:
The course is built around three foundational pillars to ensure that each tactic taught is:

• Field-Proven – Techniques are battle-tested for real-world scenarios, not just theoretical drills.

• Legally Defensible – Backed by leading use-of-force experts to ensure all tactics meet legal scrutiny.

• Operationally Feasible – Designed for seamless integration into daily duty operations and agency protocols.

COURSE STRUCTURE:

• Classroom Instruction (2 Hours):
  Covers legal considerations, use-of-force continuum, and situational awareness.

• Physical Training and Drills (5 Hours):
  Focuses on baton portation (carry), presentation (draw), and effective striking techniques. All drills are scenario-based and scalable to the student’s skill and fitness level.

HANDS-ON, STRESS-INOCULATED TRAINING:
Students will engage in high-intensity drills, including the optional RedMan Evolution – a physically demanding segment where students apply baton techniques against a live, padded aggressor in a simulated conflict. This is the only operator-level baton course that includes this type of active resistance evolution. (Participation in RedMan is optional and not required for certification.)

EQUIPMENT REQUIREMENTS:

• ASP Expandable Baton: Batons are provided during training (personal ASP batons permitted). Only ASP brand batons are authorized.

• Duty Belt or Sturdy Belt: A secure scabbard (rigid or soft) must be attached to a belt for realistic carry and draw drills.

• Training Attire: Athletic or duty-appropriate clothing is recommended for physical portions.

• Note-taking Supplies: Pen, pencil, and notebook for classroom instruction.

• No Firearms in Training Room.

CERTIFICATION:
Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive the ASP Basic Certification (ABC) — recognized industry-wide as a standard of excellence in expandable baton training.
